DISTRICT 202 STATEMENT ON DIVERSITY AND RACISM
June 3, 2020
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lane Abrell issued this statement today in response to the tragic, heartbreaking killing of George Floyd:
District 202 proudly champions our diversity. Since 1990 our community has experienced tremendous racial, ethnic and socioeconomic change. Racially, demographically, and socio-economically, today’s District 202 is very similar to our society.
We strive through our curriculum, hiring and professional development to encourage and support empathy and compassion for, and inclusion of people of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds and life experiences. Likewise, we strongly oppose racism, discrimination and bullying of any kind.
Like the world around us, we are not perfect, but we are committed to doing better, and doing our best, every day for all our students and families. And with your valued support we will continue to prepare learners for the future.
