Our 5th grade students got to participate in a long standing River View tradition last week - Outdoor Ed. Students traveled through Hammel Woods over two days and explored education through a different lens-using math, science, language and SS skills while broadening their team building skills as well. This is always a memorable event and this year was no different!

What a day! The 73rd Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade filled downtown with music, school spirit, and community pride this past weekend!
This year’s theme, “Literary Legends – Celebrating Famous Characters from the Last 100 Years,” honored the Plainfield Area Public Library’s centennial. Leading the parade was Grand Marshal Mindy Jackson, the library’s School Services Librarian, who has spent decades inspiring a love of reading in District 202 students. 📚✨

Our students celebrated National Dot Day with beautiful artwork in Art class and had the story read to them by Mrs Wallace, Media Specialist, which inspired the day!
Tru-Green will be spraying for weeds on Monday, September 15 across the district.

Flags at all District 202 buildings will fly at half-staff through sunset Sunday out of respect for the victims of the school shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Yesterday students in Ms Maltby's 2nd grade class completed a toothpaste activity. Students learned the importance of kindness and that once words are spoken they are hard to take back.
Students in Mrs. Noser's 2nd grade class squeezed toothpaste onto some paper plates. As a team, they then tried to put the toothpaste back into the tube using only toothpicks. This SEL lesson teaches students that: once you say unkind words it’s hard to take them back.
Mrs. Stennett's class read the story Too Tall Houses and decided to take on the challenge! Students went to work with nothing but index cards and tape. They found their grit as towers toppled over falling flat. After trying new idea after new idea we came out with a winning 1.5 ft tall tower! What a fun way to make a book come alive!
Students in Mrs Wolfe's third grade class participated in a "Getting to Know You" scavenger hunt. The kids found others with common "favorite things" as a way to make new friends.
Students in Mrs. Noser's room participated in a team building challenge called Save Fred. They had a great time and all groups were successful!

River View is now looking for a lunch room supervisor and paraprofessional for the 25-26 school year. If you are interested, scan the QR code and apply!
Extended School Year fourth-graders got to know each other and work as a team while completing the paper chain challenge. Each team was given one piece of paper, a pair of scissors, and tape, and had to devise a strategy to build the longest chain at River View Elementary School. #202proud

Today started our organized fun recess games. If students wanted to, they had the choice to participate in Potato Sack races. They had a great time!
4th and 5th grade students began practicing for their Battle of the Books (BOB for short) tournament during their lunch hour. BOB will officially kick off next week.
Each group of 4-5 students were assigned books to read, and then will be asked questions from their books that they will have to answer correctly for points. This extra preparation makes students feel more confident when the real tournament begins!
